Hi! My name is Melissa Yuan, which you hopefully know if you somehow found this blog.
Regardless, I’m rising sophomore at Rice University and I’m spending two months at Maluti Hospital in Lesotho, Africa. I’m here as a “medical engineer” and I along with some other students at Rice have developed several low-cost, easy-to-maintain devices we hope to introduce to doctors here and see if they would be helpful. Already, several doctors have been extraordinarily welcoming and enthusiastic about using our devices. I’m here with one other student, Andrea Ulrich, who’s just graduated from Rice. Together, the two of us deal with not having running water and scrounge around for internet where we can find it.
